An Artist Talks September 16th 2010, Volker Witte

Volker Witte began to paint at the age of 32 encouraged by his girl friend, with whom he discovers his passion and  then started to study and experiment. Today he is 59 years old, and he still has the same fresh attitude towards his painting, and trusts his feelings to go through the process of creating fantastic imaginary landscapes.
He has travelled to Greece many a times, and recalls particularly the strong light and intensity of colours during those stays.
His work was naturally influence by these trips, and the pallette of colours  changed from coloured grey to vibrant yellows and oranges. He only uses his inner vision and lise places, do not exist, although you could almost give a  name these moutains and  magical sun sets.
You cant still have the chance to see a collection of his earlier works, that are still available , in his studio on  the 4th floor of the Tacheles Art house. He explores, in these series characters, either female or male, and the composition and colours are very matured and balanced, and may remind you of masters like Picasso and Cézanne.
He has also a great collection of black and white drawings, which are more abstract and geometrical. He places them together on his wall and they look like some sort of pattern, or an unknow hieroglyph type of writing. He  produces many works, and is constantly working, he has become very successfull, since he has moved into the Tacheles art house, and talks with alot of greatfullness about this space.

An artist Talks 28th of July 2010, Martin Reiter

Martin Reiter is an Austrian artist in Tacheles since 10 years. He is at the head of the Tacheles Kunsthaus, for 10 years, as well, and is a strong figure. He defends this free art space very actively.
His past works were political , he has a critical view on this consumer society culture and sees The Tacheles as a open field for expressing another type of art.
His works were machines that destroyed, sort of a metaphore of the car and the car industry, one of the dominering industries today. Because for him, Art is a way to show to the public what is going on in our society today and how we can act upon it.
He is present every day at The Tacheles and you can freely talk further about his projects, just ask for an appointment at the office.
The battle against the investor bank, that wants to take over the Tacheles and destroy it, is a long term challenge, that he bravely pursues, in many a ways, his faith and dedication to the space, may remind you of the"untouchables".

An Artist Talks 26st of August 2010 Resa Mashoodi

Resa Mashoodi is an Iranian artist living and working in Berlin .
Resa talks about the political context in Iran and the circumstances of his departure. He left his family and culture, and  has adopted the occidental way of life. The mix of influences appears in his work, where full body female characters evolve in a unique way. They seem to be all part of a a fairy tale story and in many ways remind me of the Chinese contemporary painting.
But Resa Mashoodi is in fact fascinated by the Italian Renaissance period and has great knowledge about the artistic discussions and techniques of this period. He likes to compare the past with the present and it has become an endless source of inspiration for his contemporary artworks.
He is always seeking perfection, both in the line and colours. His very last series of paintings are an amazing series of portraits of women.
Resa Mashoodi has a desire to trespass and experience new alleys. He takes a close look at the female condition and it's evolution. Of course, the female figure is always a passion in his paintings, as he continuously represents in different situation women. Fascination for the unknown, love and desire, all mix together, give a strong impression to the viewer. The power of these works lies in the secret of unspoken words. Unexpected objects are placed carefully inside “her” mouth, “she” tries to teach us a lesson. Leading once again into a whole story, these intense series strangely open up something deep inside, beyond prejudice and misconception.

He likes also to express himself through music. Thus has he produced an experimental album, with deep noises and hypnotic sounds, alike a helicopter sometimes flying over your head.
Together strength and power come again together for the pleasure and excitement of our ears.

An Artist Talks July 22nd 2010, Udo Lindemann

Udo Lindemann is a photographer and also a very good musician and drummer.
He started to explore photographyin the seventies and went from the street pictures to a more intimate work with female models. today he has a very wide collection of pictures , all done with an old fashion film camera. He dislikes the digital works from today, who lack life and strength, for his type of work.
Their is real approach of the character of the subject and the female body as object of desire, but also simply an personnal approach of the nude, without photoshop.
Udo knows how to catch the right expression and is patient in the process of working , he follows a models sometimes for many years and developped friendships with this paticular project.
His pictures are taken with sincerity and a real concern for the freedom of expression of the photographer, even if that may be disturbing or shocking.
He likes to go on the frontiers of tabou and bring  difficult subjects out into the open, and  discuss them freely.

An Artist Talks 15th of July 2010, Barbara Fragogna

Barbara Fragogna, is a painter and the curator of the gallery from the Art house Tacheles, she has recently opened a project space, The sinne die Project room.
Barbara is Italian and collaborates often with Italian artists, that she introduces to Berlin, in her space. Their are currently exchanges of artists going on between the Gallery Abnormals and her many contacts from Venice.

Her painting explores the  female body in a very strong way, and she likes mostly to introduce suprising unexpected objects or animals into her compositions. Her colours are very well balanced between vibrant and deep, giving an unusual classical touch, to these very extravagant contemporary bodies. She likes to shock the viewer and awake him from the boredom of life and shows us maybe in a metaphorical way, how complicated living can be.

Many paintings concentrate on the  interaction between  the body and the mind, how they influence each other, and in what form? How human desires effect the development of the body, and construct it and bring it to suffer or to pleasure? These themes are explored with great talent and dedication.

An Artist Talks July 8th 2010 Udo Wiegand

Udo Wiegand is a theater actor, who explores expressions of feelings and thoughts through abstractions and precise movement of the body.
His play "Tango Horrible", that you can see at Ixes Theater on the 4th floor of the Arthouse Tacheles, puts into a box, this very contemporary subject of competition between artists, and more precisely perfoming artists: actors.
They play equally their charms, as well as they can, in front of an imaginary director, does he exist?
Both actors, one  female and one male struggle to take over the stage, the result is a refreshing comedia del arte style play , with music and smiles.
