Kurihara Takuya interviewed in Tacheles Kunsthaus.
We were lucky to have a special guest singer to warm up the talk with Kurihara.
Assilina Albina is a Russian speaking singer who sings her own songs and sings cover versions of songs she likes. I invited her to come and sing for Kurihara, who confessed to be quite shy and not be sure what he could say. But he had alot to share ...
He has been in Berlin for 5 years now and has his studio in the Tacheles since 4 years. He met Ken Mutant who invited him to share a studio with him and other artists.
At first it was not so easy to pay the rent and survive but now today he manages to sale his work enough to continue his work.
He describes the artist life in Japan, he was born next to Tokyo, in Seitama.
He began painting in Tokyo and shared aspace with some other artist?space is very expensive in tokyo, so it was not easy. The artist life style is not view socially as very positive as well, but his family has let him be free to chose his life.
He worked alot in a restaurant to make money to be able to go to Europe to devellop his career as a painter.
In to kyo you have to pay for a gallery exhibition and living from your art work is even more difficult if you are in contemporary art.
He travelled through Europe, went to Italy, London and finally chose Berlin to stay. He has been living here in berlin for 5 years now and can survive from his art production that he sales from his studio here ih the tacheles.
Please check out the next open studios here in the house last week-end of november, there will be events and Kurihara will be collaborating with VJ Chuu for performance in his studio 3rd floor right in the Kunsthaus Tacheles.
